Last week, a California sports nutrition company named VMG Global pled guilty to selling dietary supplements that illegally contained steroids. The settlement indicates that VMG Global knowingly deceived customers who bought certain supplements between 2005 -2009. The steroids contained in the Tren Xtreme and Mass Xtreme supplements could have caused significant liver damage and potential death in users who were not aware that they were taking steroids.
The plea agreement required the company to pay half a million dollars in damages and to destroy its remaining Tren Xtreme and Mass Xtreme inventory.
VMG Global is just one supplement company whose dietary supplements were recently found to contain steroids. Last week another company, MuscleMaster.com of Massachusetts, recalled 17 of its products because they may have contained steroids.
Steroids are dangerous when they are taking willingly and knowingly. However, people who take dietary supplements are often under the impression that their supplements are a safe way to build their physique and improve their physical abilities because they do not contain steroids.
It is important for potential purchasers of dietary supplements to understand that dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA and that users may not know that they were ingesting steroids until they get sick. Therefore, it is important to be cautious about buying dietary supplements over the internet.
