Recently, the BBC reported on the dangers of steroid use for teenage boys. While the laws regarding steroid use may be different in the United Kingdom and the United States, the dangers of steroid use are the same for British and American teenage boys.
In both countries, steroids are easy to purchase off the internet and are often sought by teenage boys who want to appear stronger and increase their athletic prowess. Yet, teenage boys subject themselves, perhaps unknowingly, to the following dangers when they take steroids:
- Significant mood swings;
- Development of male breast tissue;
- Shrinking testes;
- Impotence;
- High blood pressure;
- Heart damages;
- Liver damage; and
- Death.
These serious, potentially fatal, side effects hardly seem worth the risk to teenage boys who are seeking to build their muscles in order to succeed in their favorite sports or attract dates. However, teenage boys (and girls) continue to take steroids thinking that they are safe and seeing only the superficial benefits of steroids and none of the risks.
Steroid manufacturers and distributors are, however, aware of the risks and continue to sell steroids over the internet anyway.
If you, or your child, have been hurt by steroids then you may be entitled to damages and you should seek the advice of an attorney for additional information.
